Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club

The club name is a bit of a mouthful, but everyone who plays with us says they are going to play 'Petanque at the Rock'.

Woodend Hanging Rock Petanque Club is one of the best petanque clubs in Australia. Our home is the magnificent Hanging Rock public park about 4 km east of Woodend.

The club plays socially every Thursday evening from 5.30 pm to about 9.30 pm during daylight saving summer time, so early October through to late March. Our pistes (playing surfaces) are located just to the left-hand side of the Hanging Rock cafe as you drive into the park. During the winter months we play the occasional social game at the home of one of our members.

The club has about 60 members and visitors and new members are made very welcome. On Thursday evening and most winter social events the activities include a BBQ or casual meal. Throughout the summer months there is something magical about concluding a game of petanque with friends at Hanging Rock and having a BBQ as the sun sets, surrounded by the local inhabitants - kangaroos, rosellas and magpies, and situated under the impressive Hanging Rock itself.
