A little about who we are and what we do
The Macedon Ranges Cancer Support Group was established in 1997 as a community resource network, initially formulated to give comfort and support to individuals diagnosed with cancer. Demographically, over 180 people are diagnosed with cancer throughout the Macedon Ranges each year.
Thankfully, our volunteers are available for individuals struggling to come to terms with their diagnosis. Some people merely want to talk on the phone with an empathetic person who understands how they are feeling. Counselors in the group offering advice are supported by the Cancer Council of Victoria, networked with other organisations to offer referral for those needing further assistance. For example: Interlinking the appropriate support network for those in isolated areas.
Our members quite often work tirelessly supporting others through their treatment stages with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, offering much needed emotional support. Monthly meetings at the Cobaw Community Heath Centre give us valuable time to get together and share our experiences in a positive environment.
Due to the dynamics of cancer and the support network needed, the group has evolved over time to now include caregivers and those who are united in their grief, striving to make sense of it all. We are all passionate about disseminating awareness on the importance of continued research. “Loving support and ways to alleviate stress” are the most positive benefits of all say many cancer survivors. We feel proud that we are in some way making a difference.
THIS IS WHERE COMMUNITY SUPPORT MAKES AN EVEN BIGGER DIFFERENCE. Cancer affects us all, not only the individual, but also their whole family and network of friends. Please support our fundraising events. All proceeds are donated to the Cancer Council of Victoria so that we can continue to contribute toward cancer research in the hope that one day we will be a CANCER FREE WORLD.
