Rain and wind and still they came to finish the park
It was a dark and stormy day. And still they came. Dark clouds closed in. And still they came. Cold winds blew. And still they came. Rain fell. And still they came. Sincere thanks to the stalwarts who came on Sunday and worked for up to 9 hours. Expansive new garden beds just appeared. Paths were blasted. Gates were hung. What a fabulous community. What a fabulous park.

Planting day draws volunteer crowds even on a weekday
With just 5 days to go to the opening, crowds of volunteers turned out on a Thursday to plant, to rake softfall, to wheelbarrow mulch, to wheelbarrow concrete, to tirelessly scrape and sweep meandering paths, to lay stone creekbeds, to bucket water thousands of plants, to laugh, to chat, to create. A contingent of volunteers came from ANZ Bank in Melbourne. A class of students came from Braemar secondary college. Mums, Dads, kids, tradies, Grandmas they all came to help finish the park in time for the opening. What a fabulous day.

Stone creekbed laid under new timber bridge
Woodend in winter can be wet. To ensure the park is child friendly year round, Woodend Children's Park features one of the most extensive and sophisticated underground drainage systems of any park in the region. But why hide all the fun? In this area of the park the drainage system is exposed and runs under a timber bridge built by local Chris Mele. During the planting day, a team worked to begin laying the rock and stone creekbed destined to be an attractive feature in the dry months and the perfect creekbed for kids to explore in Winter.
