Woodend Children's Park gains some friends

Tylden Quarry donate $10,000

The Woodend Children’s Park was fortunate to gain the attention of some local companies this month, wanting to put something back into their community.  Bourkies Bakehouse in High Street Woodend, and Fulton Hogan’s Tylden Quarry both donated $10,000 each to the Children’s Park project, which is a substantial start to the Park’s donation drive.

Tylden Quarry is an important basalt quarry resource in the region that has operated for over 80 years. The quarry supplies building and road construction materials to vast areas of the surrounding district. Jules Fulton from Fulton Hogan Tylden Quarries said that he saw a project such as the Woodend Children’s Park bringing a whole town together, all generations, keeping the community spirit strong which is essential for country towns.

Bourkies Bakehouse, home to the infamous champion vanilla slice, see the Children’s Park project as an ideal way to thank and acknowledge the townsfolk of Woodend and surrounding districts and to leave a legacy for the community to enjoy.

These generous donations will go toward the equipment in the park.
A collaboration of the Woodend Children’s Park committee, local and State Government have been working together throughout the projects journey and representatives from each were welcomed at the Tylden Quarry for the Fulton Hogan’s cheque handover; Donna Petrovich MP, Cr John Connor, MRSC CEO Peter Johnson, and Sustainability Director Dale Thornton, along with WCP Committee members Kellie Duff, Jane Walduck and Libby Abourizk-Lindsay. Since the successful Working Bee held last month at Nicholson Street, the public has had an opportunity to see first hand the incredible potential of the site, and the WCP committee are very grateful for the many offers of in-kind goods and services being offered.

There are many ways (big or small) that people can contribute to the park project, every contribution is greatly appreciated and it is a great way to leave your mark in your town.
