Woodend Children’s Park cleans up its own backyard

About 100 people took part in the Woodend Children’s Park working bee on Saturday to clean up the Nicholson Street site.

Chainsaws buzzed, sausages were sizzled and faces painted all in the name of claiming the site which recently received in principle Macedon Shire approval for development into a playground and community park.

Landcare volunteers led a team of willing helpers, which included local Rotarians, in clearing blackberries and weeds and tidying up the site. Children were entertained with a free jumping castle and face painting.

Woodend Children’s Park president Kellie Duff said she was thrilled with the turn out and the result.

“I really want to thank everyone who gave their time – it was a great effort and a great example of a community working together on a community project,” she said.

The day also presented Woodend residents with a chance to view the site, talk to Children’s Park members and contribute to fundraising efforts through the sale of “Woodend Kids Rock” t-shirts and personalised pavers.
