Woodend Children's Park

Design Vision

It is the collective vision of the community to create a public space that will engage children and adults, bringing parents, grandparents and friends together in an environment that is both inspiring and nurturing in natural play.

The space should reflect a sense of freedom and imagination, exploring the natural world and connecting us with our environment. A place to climb trees, roll down hills, scramble up rocks, make mud pies, pick flowers, and jump in the leaves, this is a place for our children, so we may observe and share in their wonder.

This place should engage the sensory, with tactile surfaces to capture and delight encouraging a connection between imagination and the natural world; the space will be a journey through cohesive outdoor rooms offering challenging and exciting play opportunities along with quiet reflective spaces to just listen to the wind.

We will create this space by blending natural materials, reflecting Woodend’s unique local features, mixing indigenous vegetation with creative landforms and organic structures, paying tribute to a region rich in cultural history.

The space will combine landscape elements, movement corridors, sun paths, micro forests, and scalable sculptures. Sturdy recycled timbers from local mills, and iconic building materials that represent the rural environment that is symbolic, we will introduce the new generation of play structures using three-dimensional spherical designs that offers kids an infinite ways to climb and move.

This public setting will draw people together offering safe yet challenging possibilities that will teach our children about nature, expression and well being!
